Introduction: Oh Hey, Hi, Hello

Hello everyone!

(The Richmond skyline at night found here.)

My name is Christina Hughes; I am 22 and am a fifth year senior here at OU. I was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. I am majoring in Public Relations and Letters, but I want to go to graduate school for Urban Planning.I am currently in my PR capstone and it is a bit nerve wrecking. I have a strong fascination with cities, especially those with a minimal negative impact on the environment. I would love to study major cities in countries like Germany, Norway and Sweden to see how they implement green initiatives. I would then bring some of those ideas back to the United States and try to incorporate them into cities here.

(Three Norwegian Forest Cats in the snow found here.)

Other than cities, I really like cats. I mean I really really like cats. I have one cat, Lucky, at the young age of 12. He is my favorite. Along with having him, I also follow pretty much any Instagram account that features cute kitties. Even though I advocate for adopting cats from shelters, I would really love to own a pure bred Norwegian Forest Cat and a Ragdoll one day. Maybe I can convince my boyfriend to buy me one. :P Speaking of my boyfriend, his name is Taylor. He does IT/Tech-y things and is unbelievably intelligent. I suppose I will keep him.

For now I shall list some fun facts about me below.

My favorite movie is Drive.
I'm really scared of Toucans and Octopi. I can't even be in the same room as a Toucan.
I prefer hurricanes to tornadoes.
I'm notorious for crying during almost any animated movie or movies where an animal is the main character.
I adore Bernie Sanders. I will definitely be voting for him.
The Giver quartet is, in my opinion, the best book quartet ever. However, Harry Potter is my favorite book series (of course).

Go check out BernieSanders.com :)

Well, it was nice talking to you guys and I hope you enjoy my blog!

Hi, Christina! It's pretty cool that you came here all the way from Richmond. What made you choose OU?

Although I do love kitten pictures, I am definitely more of a dog person. We always had cats growing up, but after getting a dog I have decided they are more my style.

I also love Harry Potter! Reading is one of my favorite things to do; though, I must confess, I've never read the Giver books. I'll have to put them on my list. It was nice getting to know you!

Hey Christina, those cats are so adorable! Now I want one too haha. I love cats as well. I have one cat, Kiki, who hates everyone in the world but me, and another cat who is the most hyper and crazy cat ever. I've learned from my cats that you do not own cats, cats own you haha. I actually have to read Drive, the book the move was based on, for one of my classes. I've never seen the movie, so glad to hear it's that good! Makes me look forward to reading the book. I'll also have to check out The Giver--I've never read it, but I love reading Young Adult books. Anyways, nice to meet you!

Man, octopi are super creepy! They're too smart to be having 8 sneaky arms.

I, like Madison and you, love Harry Potter. I have heard of the Giver but I didn't know there was more than one! I'll put them on my booklist. I also love cats! Sometimes I watch cat videos with my cat (his name is Pancake) when he feels the need.

Urban planning is so cool! I only know a little, mostly from TEDtalks or listening to my old roommate when she talked about sustainable living experiments being done in England. It's a real shame it hasn't caught on more with the US.

Aha, Christina, you are a cat person! As you can guess, I am so glad to have a fellow cat person in the class, and those cats in the snow clearly want to be made into a meme, ha ha... maybe you will be the one to figure out what vital message they have for the human world!

And it would be so cool if you found some way to let your fascination with cities and environmentalism turn into a project for this class. There are so many great legends about cities, real cities, but also fantasy cities, and lost cities, like Atlantis and many more besides - there's a great article at Wikipedia you might want to explore, a long list of real and also legendary lost cities! Every one of them could be a story...

Hi Christina! I like how upfront and humorous you made your introductory post! It made it not a boring read. I also like how you didn't tend to ramble on and made it straight to the point. Also, do you like Taylor Swift at all? Because you'd be in good company since she loves cats as well ;) Can't wait to get to know you better throughout the semester!

Hey Christina! It's great that you want to make an impact on the cities here by studying green initiatives and seeing how you can help! I think that would be nice to have an even more green-friendly environment around the world. I loved the book The Giver. I remember reading it in the 7th grade. It was sad, and I was new to the distopian-society world of books but I enjoyed how it was written and the messages. I have yet to read the rest of the series but it's on my list!

Nice to meet you! :)

Hi there Christina!

I really enjoyed ready your blog, it was quite entertaining! The fun facts about yourself at the end were a really good idea! I got to know some random things about you that give me a little bit more insight to you and your personality. I have never heard of going to graduate school for Urban Planning. That seems so incredibly interesting! What is your favorite city that you have ever been to? Have you been to any of those countries abroad with the great green initiatives? Best of luck with everything!

Hi Christina,

I am a super senior as well! I think Urban Planning would be very fascinating to study! I'm more of a dog than a cat person. I really like your design of your blog as well. I absolutely love the Giver. You should check out Anthem by Ayn Rand, it is similar to the Giver. I can't wait to read some of your stories this semester!

Hi Christina!

I am also 22 and a super senior! I am actually realizing there are a lot of us in this class in that same category! I see you are a PR major, have you taken capstone? If not, I wish you the best of luck! I am currently in the Advertising/PR combined capstone and it is kicking my butt! Good luck this year and hopefully you will get the chance to fulfill your studies abroad!

Hello Christina, it’s cool that you would love to go study the cities in Germany, Norway and Sweden. I actually had a friend who studied abroad in Germany in the Pharmacy research field. Cats are nice but sadly I am allergic to them :( . After coming to Oklahoma, I don’t really like earthquakes, hurricanes, or tornadoes. I’ll probably prefer just snowy weather like Minnesota or Wisconsin and avoid the other earthly disasters lol. It was great to meet you! Hope to see more stories from you soon!

Hi Christina. It was nice to meet you and read about your personal life. I think it's cool that you have a fascination for studying large cities. I personally don't like them. I've never read The Giver but I will definitely have to put it on my future reading list. Harry Potter on the other hand is my favorite. Ive read each book multiple times. Good luck on all of your future plans!

It’s cool that you want to work in other countries. I feel like we should try to be greener in America so that we don’t waste our resources. Harry Potter is definitely my favorite series so it neat that we can talk about that. I haven’t read The Giver, but I did watch the movie and I really liked it, even though the book is always better than the movie. Its nice to meet you and I hope you have a nice last year of school.

Hi Christina,

It's great that you have such a clear vision for what you want in life and it sounds so interesting. Did you know that there is a Heath, Design, and Culture study abroad class in Germany this interssion. It sounds like something that might interest you.

Although I personally don't care for large cities, your interst in making them more environmentally friendly sounds awesome.

The. cats. look. awesome.

I've heard of Ragdolls before but never Norwegians. They just look so cuddly! Maybe one day I'll have my own kitty.

Best of luck with the rest of your semester and I enjoyed reading your intro.

I am really glad there are people like you that are very concerned with our environment and want to improve it. I think it is cool that you are from Virginia and managed to make your way to Oklahoma! If you prefer hurricanes you came to the wrong place! I am glad you have stuck around to deal with Oklahoma and it’s crazy weather.

Hey, Christina!

I'm majoring in public relations, too! I'm taking capstone next semester, though. I hope it has gotten less nerve wrecking since you began the class! But I'm sure you're in the middle of it all since the semester is almost done.
Wow - double majoring! That's impressive and I've always admired those who do that. Do you enjoy Letters?
Urban Planning seems cool, too!

I hope you have a great last few weeks of your semester! It was great getting to know a little bit about you. Good luck with everything!

Hi Christina!
What made you want to come to OU? I am from Oklahoma and my family has raised me a sooner girl which explains why I am here. You have wonderful goals. I wish the US would have a better effort in being "green." I'm not a huge cats fan. I like them, I just don't have any. But I will say, I would pick chasing a tornado over a hurricane but that's probably from growing up here. Good luck with your studies!
